Does a possibility exist that .tel will be used one day?

Post by di7 on Mon 24 Mar 2014, 12:34 am

Exactly 5 years after launch not a single reason would justify to buy a .tel domain. The opposite is the case, because sales are going down strongly and the whole outlook is negative.
However is their a slight chance that a .tel can be used for anything in the future?

What do you think?

What do you think?

1. Telnames only for a simple master information page, drilldown kills .tel
2. A simple directory to find family, friends, and businesses, without garbage subdomains of course.
3. An app that make it valuable to "circles" after that. (see www.connect.com)

But, we are talking about Telnic/Telnames, so they advertise as a website, and a joke, nothing more.

I think tel should fork like they do with software into two domains tel and a new domain that covers the DNS storage capability that does not need to be linked to .tel when there's no real information in it that at this point is justified for it to be linked to tel anymore, telnames on its own or another company should take over .tel so we can forget about it and let be as just a single page thing as they just want it to be and will never let go of.

And telnic.org should change its name and apply to run the same system but as something like .dns .store .data and don't include the single proxy page but keep it locked to custom DNS servers hosted by registrars only but allowing for any kind of information to be stored in it and allow those registrars to offer web hosting proxies without the cost and red tape telnic had like they do with normal web pages/sites but so we can choose our own template or make our own in order to serve the data the way we expect.

tel has failed on the basis that its bloated it does not really need the DNS storage so that should be syphoned off into another domain that's less restricted. We all got into the idea of tel was full of potential but it failed to live up to our expectations because of red tape and corporate visions no requiring integrating a online telephone directory. But give the DNS to another domain then it'll have some potential to change the future of serving fast mobile friendly data.

Ask yourself why millions of people use White Pages and Yellow Pages everyday ... because they CAN'T find contact information in Google easily!

.tel directory is supposed to be a better White Pages and Yellow Pages.

Can you find my .tel in Google? In Telpages?

Not in Google, and not in Telpages quickly because of the subdomain garbage.

Can you find family, friends, and business .tel's quickly? Of course not.

Who cares about .tel then?  Nobody.

Where's the .tel directory?

Facebook is smart enough to have it, and Twitter, and any intelligent effort!

RADIO DNS AND DOT TEL

Wonder if anybody has looked at Radio DNS and considered if there is a way of integrating this with a dot tel website to provide a form of enhanced RDS combined with Electronic Programme Guide?

Radio DNS is a method for a hybrid radio receiver, meaning one receiving the broadcast radio signal and connected to the Internet, to find the Internet address of the interactive service corresponding to the radio station actually tuned. It uses the existing Domain Name System to allow the connected radio receiver to look up web resources based on their broadcast parameters, (Source Wikipedia)

Demo available at http://www.radiodns.info/

So, has anyone who knows much more than me about this subject, taken a look to see if it is possible to integrate Radio DNS and Telnic Websites? Is this a possible use for dot tel in the future?  Would there be any advantage in doing it?

Presumably the system could be made to work without the need for a modified FM or DAB receiver. You would simply point the browser on your Smart Phone or tablet to radiostation.tel and be able to use RadioVIS, RadioEPG and RadioTAG (See http://radiodns.org/ for an explanation of these terms)

(Apologies if this topic has been covered before, I did a quick SEARCH of the Forums but couldn’t find anything.)

Regards

Keith
